How Grades Work

Each time you search using GradeTheWeb, you’ll see a grade next to each of your results that look like these:

These grades come from our users who have visited those websites.  Anyone can submit grades – including you.  There is no need to register or sign in to submit grades.  You’ll see grades ranging from A to F next to each result.  The highest grades tell you which websites are best according to our users.  If no grades have been submitted for a particular website yet, then you’ll see the words, “Not Graded Yet” next to that result. 

Submitting grades is fast, fun and easy using our special Grade Bar.  When you do a search, you’ll be taken to the results page.  When you click on one of the results, you’ll be taken directly to that specific website.  When that website page opens, you’ll notice a thin Grade Bar at the top of the page directly under your browser.  Please note that you are not required to submit grades in order to use our search engine.  The Grade Bar will look like this:

This Grade Bar allows you to instantly grade the website you’re looking at by simply clicking on one of the grade buttons.  The grade you submit will immediately be combined with the grades other users have submitted for that same website.  An average grade is then automatically calculated and displayed next to that website link each time it appears on our search results page. 

Everyone who uses GradeTheWeb all agree that grading websites is really a lot of fun!   You’ll now have the power to simply click a button and instantly submit a grade on any website – It’s something you’ll definitely enjoy doing and you’ll instantly see the effect of your grade on the results page!  GradeTheWeb is one of the only search engines where you have the power to actually interact with the results.  No longer will searching the web be dull and boring – With GradeTheWeb, you’ll find the best websites fast and have loads of fun doing it

Once you click one of the grade buttons, the Grade Bar will change showing you the grade you submitted for that website.  Here’s what the Grade Bar will look like after you clicked a grade button:

You can grade each website only once per search term.  You will not be able to submit multiple grades for the same website.  This strategy allows us to maintain the highest level of quality and integrity in our grading system while providing you with the most accurate grades on your search results!  Please note that although you cannot submit multiple grades per website, you are allowed to change your grade at anytime.  You can do this by simply clicking on the “Change your grade” link on the Grade Bar.  You will then be able to select a new grade by clicking on one of the grade buttons.  Changing your grade will remove your previous grade from the calculations and your new grade will take its place.  (Please also note that ‘Sponsored Links’ or ‘Ads’ cannot be graded as the Grade Bar will not appear because they are paid listings).

Turning the Grade Bar “On” or “Off”

If you’d like to hide the Grade Bar, you can do so by clicking on the “Close Grade Bar” link located on the Grade Bar.  This will not turn off the Grade Bar, but will simply remove or hide it while you’re on that website.  The next time you do another search and click on one of the results, the Grade Bar will appear again.  Hiding the Grade Bar after you submitted a grade will not alter or affect your grade.

You can also turn the Grade Bar off completely if you don’t want it to appear each time you click on a result.  Turning off the Grade Bar will not alter or affect any of the previous grades you submitted in the past.  If you want to turn the Grade Bar off, simply check the “Off” box on the search results page where it says:

Grade Bar is: ON     OFF

(This On/Off switch is located on the search results page in the upper right hand corner of your screen).  Please keep in mind that if you turn the Grade Bar off, you won’t be able to submit grades.  You can turn the Grade Bar on again at anytime by simply checking the “On” box on the results page.
